UCL's Position on Canada's National Electricity Strategy & Budget 2026
Canada's decision to double its electricity system by 2050 is one of the most consequential economic and climate commitments this country has made in a generation. Urban Climate Leadership (UCL) supports the ambition behind Powering Canada Strong: A National Strategy for an Electrified Canadian Economy, and welcomes the opportunity to comment on it directly.
This submission sets out UCL's recommendations on the National Electricity Strategy (Part I), notes an important point of coordination with the parallel federal consultation on light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas standards (Part II), and, because several recommendations carry direct fiscal implications, sets out the same priorities in a format suited to Canada's Budget 2026 pre-budget process (Part III).
