A Climate Era Demanding Bold, Integrated Leadership: CleanBC Review

British Columbia stands at a crossroads. The climate emergency is no longer a distant threat—it’s here, reshaping our economy, straining our public institutions, and deepening inequality. How we respond now will determine whether our province can thrive in the face of relentless change.

In our recent submission to CleanBC, Urban Climate Leadership called on the provincial government to lead decisively, equitably, and at scale. This means moving beyond the limits of siloed mandates and embracing a whole-of-government approach—working across ministries, jurisdictions, and sectors to build the capacity needed for a just transition to a resilient, low-carbon economy.

B.C. has the tools to lead: abundant, clean hydro power, access to critical minerals, strong Indigenous and local governments, world-class innovators, an active labour and social justice movement, and a population that values clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment. By acting boldly and integrating climate priorities across all aspects of governance, the province can position itself as a national and global leader in building a sustainable, competitive future.

This is the moment to align vision with action—because the climate era demands nothing less.
